Water Scrubbing Tower

Water Scrubbing Tower

GYRO offers custom-designed water scrubbing towers tailored to specific gas flow rates, pollutant concentrations, and emission targets, rather than simply supplying a standard water-filled tower.
When procuring this equipment, key factors to consider include treatment capacity, removal efficiency, pressure drop, circulating water volume, and final emission standards; these parameters determine the equipment's dimensions and operating costs.

Water Scrubbing Tower Process

Gas containing pollutants enters the lower section of the tower and comes into full contact with the recirculating water sprayed from the top.

As the gas flows upward and the water flows downward, the contact area is maximized through the use of spray nozzles, packing material, or other gas-liquid contact structures, allowing soluble pollutants to transfer into the aqueous phase.

The treated gas is discharged from the top of the tower, while the collected recirculating water is returned to the circulation system; a portion of the wastewater is periodically discharged and fresh water is added based on pollutant concentrations.

For specific projects, GYRO determines the spray levels, packing height, recirculation water flow rate, tower diameter, and mist elimination structure based on actual gas conditions.

Product Advantages

Highly efficient removal of water-soluble pollutants

For gases requiring water absorption, a single-stage water scrubbing system can achieve a pollutant removal rate of over 90% with optimized gas-liquid contact conditions. For highly water-soluble components, engineering designs can further achieve removal rates of 95%–99%+ under appropriate concentration, temperature, and liquid-to-gas ratio conditions.

However, specific removal rates must be calculated based on the pollutant type and inlet concentration.

Continuous treatment of high gas volumes

Water scrubbing towers can be designed for large-scale operations to match actual gas flow rates.

Equipment can be configured for gas flow rates ranging from a few thousand Nm³/h to hundreds of thousands of Nm³/h. Tower diameter, packing height, and spray systems are recalculated based on the treatment capacity; we determine the optimal tower diameter by considering gas velocity, liquid-to-gas ratio, packing characteristics, and allowable pressure drop.

Control of liquid carryover

GYRO systems can be equipped with high-efficiency mist elimination structures to separate liquid droplets entrained in the gas stream. This minimizes liquid accumulation in downstream piping, water carryover into fans, corrosion of downstream equipment, and circulating water loss.

Specific allowable droplet carryover limits are determined based on project process requirements.

Control of system pressure drop

For scrubbing systems positioned relative to the fan, pressure drop directly impacts operational power consumption. Our design process simultaneously balances removal efficiency, gas velocity, and pressure drop.

By carefully selecting packing materials, spray configurations, and tower diameters, we minimize system resistance while meeting treatment efficiency targets. Options such as larger tower diameters or low-pressure-drop packing solutions can be selected based on specific operating conditions.

What Problems Can a Water Scrubbing Tower Solve

Excessive exhaust emission concentrations

Scrubbing capacity is designed based on inlet pollutant concentrations and target emission limits, achieving a removal efficiency of approximately 95%.

Presence of water-soluble components in the gas

Concentrations of certain acidic gases, alkaline gases, or other water-absorbable components can be reduced through water scrubbing.

Co-existence of dust and soluble pollutants

Spraying and gas-liquid contact can simultaneously reduce the load of both dust and water-soluble pollutants, thereby alleviating the burden on downstream environmental protection equipment.

Insufficient processing capacity of existing systems

Tower diameter, circulating water volume, and spray capacity can be recalculated based on new gas flow rates, pollutant concentrations, and emission requirements, making the system suitable for capacity expansion and environmental upgrades.

Key Engineering Design Parameters

You simply need to provide the following basic data:

  • Gas Flow Rate
  • Gas Temperature
  • Gas Pressure
  • Inlet Pollutant Concentration
  • Target Outlet Concentration
  • Gas Composition
  • Operating Hours

Based on the data you provide, GYRO determines the tower diameter, gas velocity, packing height, circulating water flow rate, spray layers, mist eliminator, and circulation system.

This ensures that the equipment's design specifications are practically meaningful.

Why Choose GYRO

GYRO offers more than just the water scrubbing tower unit itself; we are involved in the entire project lifecycle, from equipment design, manufacturing, and inspection to installation and technical support.

Our company operates a 30,000 m² facility featuring a 20,000 m² production workshop and over 150 units of manufacturing and processing equipment. Our capabilities include large-scale plate rolling machinery, 100-ton lifting equipment, a 1,000-ton hydraulic press, and more than 80 welding units (including automatic submerged arc welding systems), enabling the fabrication of large, non-standard chemical equipment.

Our engineering team comprises over 50 designers and 15 engineering technicians, supported by certified pressure vessel welders and NDT personnel.

Our water scrubbing towers can be fully engineered to meet your specific gas conditions and emission targets.

If you already have the waste gas flow rate, inlet pollutant concentration, and target outlet concentration, please send these details directly to GYRO.

Based on these targets, we will determine the required removal efficiency, tower diameter, packing, circulation water flow, spray system, and equipment configuration-rather than simply providing a standard, meaningless quote upfront.
