Fractionation Towers

Fractionation Towers

Fractionation towers are core equipment in oil refining, petrochemical, coal-chemical, and fine-chemical processing units. GYRO does not sell towers based on fixed dimensions; instead, we begin the design process by analyzing your feed composition, throughput, product purity, recovery rates, and energy consumption targets, ensuring that tower dimensions, internals, and reflux and reboil systems are precisely tailored to meet your final product specifications.

What Can Fractionation Towers Achieve?

Higher Product Purity

We can design the number of theoretical stages, column internals, and reflux conditions based on target product specifications. Systems that are easy to separate may require fewer stages, whereas components with close boiling points necessitate more stages and stricter operational control.

Stable Product Recovery

By optimizing feed location, gas-liquid loads, and reflux conditions, losses of the target product-carried away with light or heavy components-are minimized.

Reduced Risk of Operational Flooding

Column diameter is determined based on gas-liquid loads. Engineering designs typically avoid long-term operation near the flooding limit; operating gas velocities are often controlled within the range of approximately 70–90% of the flooding velocity (with 80–85% being a common design point), though specific values must be calculated based on the process medium and column internals.

Designed Around Your Separation Target

Key Parameters for Evaluation:

  • Feed Composition
  • Feed Flow Rate
  • Product Purity
  • Product Recovery
  • Operating Pressure
  • Operating Temperature
  • Reflux Ratio
  • Required Separation Stages
  • Feed Location
  • Vapor/Liquid Load

Then determine: Column Diameter → Column Height → Column Internals → Number of Trays → Feed Location → Reflux System → Reboiler → Condenser

Trays vs. Packing

178971571126

Tray towers are better suited for projects involving high throughput and high liquid loads, whereas packed towers are more appropriate for smaller-scale equipment, vacuum operations, corrosive services, or applications sensitive to pressure drop. While packed towers generally offer lower pressure drop than tray towers, the final selection depends on a combination of factors, including throughput, fluid properties, separation requirements, and equipment costs.

GYRO offers configurations based on project-specific conditions:

  • Sieve trays
  • Valve trays
  • Bubble cap trays
  • Structured packing
  • Random packing

Customized for Your Plant

GYRO systems can be customized according to project requirements, including:

  • Column diameter
  • Column height
  • Number of trays
  • Tray spacing
  • Packing sections
  • Feed nozzle location
  • Side draws
  • Reflux connections
  • Product outlets
  • Reboiler connections
  • Condenser connections
  • Platforms and ladders
  • Manholes
  • Insulation supports
  • Materials of construction

For large-scale fractionation towers, we take into account transport dimensions, sectional fabrication, on-site lifting, installation space, and piping interfaces to prevent issues where the equipment cannot be installed on-site after manufacturing is complete.

Designed for Industrial EPC Projects

Fractionation towers can be procured as standalone units or as part of a complete EPC plant.

Based on PFDs, P&IDs, equipment lists, process data, and datasheets, GYRO participates in technical validation and supplies the tower along with all necessary auxiliary equipment according to the project scope.

Suitable for oil refining, petrochemicals, coal-to-chemicals, olefin plants, fine chemicals, gas processing, chemical separation, and process plant projects. You do not need to determine the tower size upfront; simply tell us the feed material, processing rate, and desired products, and our engineering team will handle the equipment design.

Manufacturing Capability

GYRO possesses the capability to manufacture large-scale, non-standard chemical equipment, operating a production base of approximately 30,000 m² that includes 20,000 m² of workshop space and over 150 units of manufacturing and processing equipment.

Factory facilities include:

  • 100-ton maximum lifting capacity
  • 1,000-ton hydraulic press
  • 80+ welding machines
  • 9 automatic submerged arc welding machines
  • 80 mm × 3,000 mm plate rolling capacity

Systematic control is maintained throughout the manufacturing process-spanning large-scale shell rolling, welding, and assembly to heat treatment and inspection.

Engineering & After-Sales Support

Engineering Design

Equipment design based on fractionation tower process conditions.

Fabrication

Manufacturing in accordance with approved technical documentation.

Inspection & Testing

Execution of in-process and final quality inspections.

Installation Support

Provision of on-site technical support for installation.

Commissioning Support

Assistance in resolving technical issues during the equipment commissioning phase.

Maintenance & Modification

Engineering support for the maintenance, capacity expansion, and modification of existing units.

If you simply require a fractionation tower, GYRO can manufacture it according to your drawings.

However, if you need separation equipment capable of achieving specific product purity, recovery rates, and throughput, it is more appropriate to start with the process data.

GYRO's engineering team determines the tower type, dimensions, internals, heat exchange requirements, and manufacturing plan based on actual operating conditions before providing a project quotation.
